The purifying and cooling nature of water

The Purifying and Cooling Nature of Water

Our second chakra and is called Svadhisthana Chakra, translating to “in her own abode.” This chakra is located in the genial region, at our sacrum, meaning sacred and it is where our creative, sensual and sexual energies exist. It is where we find the fluid, flowing gracefulness for life.

It is a vital energy center within the human body’s subtle energy system and governs our ability to taste. To taste – life, beautify, pleasure, touch, sweetness, and create and (re)produce in beauty and joy. When balanced, this chakra fosters a sense of well-being, healthy relationships, and a free flow of creative expression.

It is seen as a sacred and transformative force and symbolizes – energy, emotions and the free flow of water such as rivers, oceans and streams. These bodies of water are often regarded as conduits (nadi’s in the body) for divine energy and gateways to spiritual realms. The adaptable and yielding qualities of water serve as a metaphor for flexibility and the ability to navigate the complexities of the spiritual journey. Whether used in meditation, rituals or other specific practices it evokes a sense of purity, renewal, washing, cleansing, clearing and a profound connection to the fluid nature of life and the aliveness of which water can hold.

As well, the water element makes up 70% of our body’s temple, which interestingly enough is the same percentage that covers Mother Earth. With this being said, have you ever thought about how water in the body is affected by the moon and the lunar cycles? Tides are well known to be linked to the moon’s gravitational pull, and therefore in this chakra we see the relationship between water, moon, emotions, and the psyche.

The larger the moon, the more gravitational the pull. The waxing and waning of the moon, not surprisingly, also influences our body chemistry and emotions. It is also worth mentioning that the phases of the moon mirror women’s menstrual cycles.

When in balance, we know what pleasure is – in food, touch, sensuality, sexuality, creativity. We find ourselves in healthy sexual relationships and we have the ability to express and create. This is our vital life force!

When out of balance, we get frozen in our flow and emotions— – out of balance desires, escapism and find ourselves in lust, blame and shame and our creativity is blocked or stuck.

Strengthening practices such as – breathwork, mula bandha, root chakra meditation moving up to sacral, asana, and mantra are often employed to harmonize and activate the Sacral Chakra, promoting emotional balance and a heightened sense of joy and vitality.

Explore and practice in your sacred waters! I am offering a special meditation on the Sacral Chakra that will support you to explore the element of water further and how you might bring more flow, creativity, and ease into your daily life.

Take a listen and then carve out some time to journal about your experience.
